Map to the workspace
1) BEFORE SHOWING UP
If possible, set apart 60-90 minutes before you arrive to be alone, feed yourself and rest; protein of some sort is suggested. This work draws on energy sources in the body. If possible, do not arrive right after work or after heavy socializing. If you arrive already drained or tired, this work can leave you frustrated and exhausted. Also, please do not smoke pot or drink alcohol before arriving.
2) PUNCTUALITY AND FEE
Punctuality expected. Sept 14/15 Intensive, the doors open at Noon. The one-day Sept 22nd workshop, doors open at 11:30am. For the Sept 14/15 Intensive, the remaining $80. balance of the fee is collected on Saturday the 14th. For the Sept 22nd workshop the remaining $40. balance is collected on Sunday the 22nd. If you know you'll be more than 10 minutes late, Please e-mail me or call me (503-299-4064; voicemail - no texting, please).
3) WHAT TO BRING; A SCENT-FREE ZONE
Bring a bottle of water or tea for hydration. Wear or bring clothes you can move freely in (don't wear shirts with corporate logos, media images or cultural symbols). We work in a scent-free zone; please do not wear perfume, cologne or other strong scents in the workspace.
4) THE ASOCIAL CLIMATE
Paratheatre training occurs in an asocial climate. Please minimize or eliminate socializing when you arrive in the workspace. After each session, socialize as much as you want. Click this for more on the asocial aspect of this work.
5) SELF-ACCOUNTABILTY & PERSONAL SAFETY
You are responsible for your own safety. This process sometimes gives way to strong emotions and catharsis. You may hear spontaneous weeping, laughing, or sudden shouts that can interrupt your focus or momentarily throw you off center. In the face of potential interruptions, please do your best to restore your sense of safety and focus. No one is there to make you safe; that is your job.
6) INJURIES
Please inform me any injures you are tending to. If you have an injury that prohibits you from jogging for five minutes at a time, I may ask you to withdraw from the workshop. Safety first.
7) PARATHEATRE WORKBOOK
Copies of my book, "Towards an Archeology of the Soul" (2003; 272 pages, illustrated), are available at a discounted rate of $15. each for workshop participants. This book is not mandatory but an optional resource about the methods of this work (including "lab reports" from participants over three decades). Contact me if you'd like to purchase this book and I will bring you a (autographed) copy.
